LIVING IN LAGOS
We probably don't need to tell you that Lagos is an idyllic oasis of Portuguese charm, respite and fun. 300 days of sunshine a year make it one of the sunniest regions in Europe, a figure only beaten by the number of restaurants and bars available in and around the city centre, presenting a diverse offering of cuisines, wines (and cocktails, of course).

Award-winning beaches, golf courses and a celebrated marina also await you, all within a short distance of Oliveira Apartments.

CULTURE
Beyond Lagos' beaches and cobbled streets lies a rich cultural and historical heritage.
The Church of St Anthony, located in view of the marina ria and a short stroll to the centre is a beautiful example of Baroque architecture. Originally built in 1707, it was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755 and adorned with carved, gold-plated woodwork.
Just around the corner, the city walls and defensive fortifications cannot be missed. The structure that stands dates from the 16th century, including an arched entrance flanked by watchtowers.

The requirement for defensive walls was owing to Lagos' significance geographically. During the Age of Discoveries in the 15th century, Lagos' proximity to Africa ensured it became a major point of arrival and departure for ships and a major trading centre for gold and silver. The statues that stand around Lagos pay tribute to the many Portuguese explorers who graced the streets many centuries ago.

PLACES TO VISIT
We don't wish to deter you from your own exploration and adventure, but it would wrong of us to not list just a few of our favourite things about Lagos.
Don Sebastião, The Garden, Tasca do Kiko and Camilo are just a few wonderful places to eat. And why not try Stevie Ray's for live jazz? Or head to Meia Praia and enjoy one of the many beach bars that straddle the 4km stretch of golden sands.

There's wind-surfing, kite-surfing, kayaking and sailing to name just a few of the water sports opportunities. Or if walking is for you, the 8km hike from Praia da Luz to Lagos, via the stunning rock formation of Ponta da Piedade is an absolute must. Enjoy!!
